Morning chaps,

At the AGM I put myself forward as a committe member, with the role of bringing in sponsorship for the forthcoming season. We are looking at shirt sponsors, fixture cards, matchball and boards around the ground/on the pavillion.

I do work in sales and marketing so know the process of how to go about pitching for it, but does anyone have any tips or insights as to how the best way to go about this. We are playing in the Marstons Shropshire Premier League so a decent enough standard, essentially one below the Brummy league

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Having done this 2 years ago for my old club, its very difficult. We didnt have the option of boards which i would have thought is a good way of exposure, and most people i approached didnt really see the benefit of the other types of sponsorship. Plus alot of businesses were put off by the credit crucnh.

The club i used to play for was dying and was practically finished which didnt help as their exposure was zero. What standard do your club play for? If they had a few snaps in local papers its worth seeing if you can get hold of them to show how/when their company would get exposure.

At my current club a fair bit of sponsorship comes from people within the club who have businesses. Always worth tapping them up

Thanks mate, have asked all our players to provide me with who they work for and a contact within the company for me to have a chat with them.

We are a pretty well known club in Shrewsbury and have a couple of partners in place already, but I understand what you say about the local economies getting hit hard. We do play at a pretty good standard, Shropshire Premier League, with promotion taking us up into the Birmingham Leagues next season (providing we get there of course)

We have a fairly good deal to offer, sponsoring all kits for the season, loan of the ground for company games etc

Quite a few business' around here, car dealerships seem to be more interested than others

I think you're more likely to gain sponsorship from a company/business where you know you can give something back to them. E.g. we are sponsored by a Bar/Nightclub in town where we hold several functions and events throughout the year, i.e. Race nights, quizzes, summer ball and coming up this summer a visit from Viv Richards. This way the business is receiving its money back over the bar, and the club are getting decent sponsorship money.

that's the issue I have really.

We have a social club on our grounds and membership fees go towards becoming a member. May try certain restaraunts though in the town centre

Ahh very true! I forget that not all clubs have a tiny clubhouse with a small bar like ours!
