My blo*dy front foot!
« on: April 03, 2009, 09:43:09 AM »

Hi Guys,
I'm not sure whether you guys can offer me any tips on this. Basically for some unknown reason this year through nets i've developed a habit of planting my front foot to balls on middle/leg and playing around my front foot.....and it's annoying the hell out of me because that should be bread and butter and i'm either missing balls going down leg or just not being able to whip across to the gaps in the leg side field.
If you could think of any drills or tips i would really apprecciatte it, as i want to get rid of this before the matches start!
Cheers

Might be your head leaning too far to the off side or maybe you are trying to play too square? Maybe look to play a bit straighter through mid on, mid wicket until you are happy with your balance.

As said you are probably overbalancing due to your head being too far forward or it may even be that your stance isnt wide enough?  This overbalancing may force you to put your front foot too far forward for the wrong balls.

Do you have a trigger movement? I used to do this when I triggered forward but since switching to a trigger of back and across I've been able to keep my head in line with the ball and not been falling over the shot.

Hey cheers guys, all of the advice makes real sense....the nets im using at the moment are fast but very low, so i guess i'm pre-empting and getting on my front foot to early....may take dynamite's advice and work on using a different trigger, also like Leo mentioned this is making me overbalance aswell so making going back as a trigger will help give me a more stable base to play off......because i know if im going forward all the time i'm going to get a few balls that spit at me when playing outside.....anyway, got a couple things to work on! thankyou my friends!
