Ravi Bop
« on: April 12, 2011, 12:46:51 PM »

I've just read this and thought its really good that Ravi has turned down the chance to play IPL as he wants to play Test cricket more. I think this is really commendable as £100k to play 4 weeks of cricket must be pretty attractive...

Good on him. The only way to get into the test team is scoring runs in first class cricket not smashing a few in IPL.

i think its really good for cricket as i thought with the introduction of IPL and the other limited over competitions, Test cricket was going to suffer

He wont get picked for the tests though. The selectors will talk about consistency of selection and Morgan is the next cab in the rank and all that...

Notice how he has said that after not attracting any bids in the original process? Doubt he would have turned down 400k in January

Morgan is at the ipl currently I wonder if the selectors will look elsewhere. Personally for me I would go a complete opposite route and pick one of a few, maybe Morgan. Or bopara, Taylor, northeast(he a decent end to the season) hildreth, gale

As like for like goes Ravi is the right selection - it is just he dozes off in the field and drops catches - which is not good (not that that makes him a bad person - I enjoy a doze and drop catches too!)

My view is that Taylor is a good pick or maybe Hildreth, not sure either of them bowl though. The fact is that Morgan is a quality player though and will be a good test player. Trott will just have to pick up the extra bowling duties...

Bopara being a big headed Singh, probably thinks he's worth more than the 100k was he offered. He's not mentally tough enough for Tests either.

i have thought that Bopara doesnt have the mental strength required to succeed at the highest level. Poor attacks like the windies he creamed for sure. got found out against the aussies.
