Edge Branding
« on: September 05, 2011, 02:27:38 PM »

Ive noticed that brands are increasingly Branding the edges of the bats such as the TON symbol, H4L devil and a few others. With the exception of the TON symbol ive not had the pleasure of seeing these up close. The TON symbols i have seen have been a bit rough around the edges.  Are the other brands ones better? if so is that due to using a better system or just better care?Im just wondering how these are done and to what depth they go without damaging or weakening the edges?

thanks

You get what you pay for I think.....ours gives a nice crisp look once they are printed as its electric and heated by the mains....others you can get are gas powered and the TOn ones may even be a cattle iron brand thats heated in a fire which may explain the rough and ready look it gives ???

Tom is correct , the lecky ones are the only way to go as the temp can be controlled. I had a batch done (let's call it open fire evening) and they turned out very well but that was a case of being their and watching over. (2 brandings per edge)

as per Buzzes link above....all done by hand as its not exactly rocket science once you measure up where you want to stamp them :)

they only go a mm deep really and wont damage the edges, tend to give ours a quick sand over after they are done as its burns into the wood and just tidies it all up a bit
