Tim keeley/ newbery bats
« on: September 12, 2011, 05:22:38 PM »

just got back from a net session and one of the guys there had a look at my TK bat. When he asked about it i said its basically a Newbery with different stickers, to which he challenged me and said that no way is that a newbery. He then pulled out of his bag a grizzly l.e and pointed out how different the handle was and to how better finished his bat was. His Newbery's splice of the handle was pretty much the exact same colour of the blade its self. Where as my bat the splice is more of a darker wood and this has been the case for all the bats ive bought via the forum. The chances are this guy knows f all about bats. But it did make me wonder..........

My question is the bats TK outsources for other companies are these comparable to genuine Newbery bats, or is there a major difference? whether it just be to different handles being used etc?

Very little difference. Companies can specify what handles they want and may specify a press type, but they get the same amount of care and attention.

I would think the handles are imported perhaps and each one could have a different colour to it compared to the willow used in the blade of the bat....bit luck of the draw type of scenario.

All the bats we have had are very well finished and having been down with Mr B to see the set-up the volume they produce would mean that not every bat is going to have the same "matching" handle and blade.

Lots of Newbery bats won't have matching colour handles and blades, but it doesn't usually matter as the stickers cover them.

Every Newbery is a TK, but not every TK is a Newbery. That sort of technical scenario?

But the difference are very little as said above

Every Newbery, minus Jnr bats. Tim doesn't do any Jnr bats at all.
