Asics Cricket Shoes - Have they got any better?
« on: September 17, 2011, 07:00:16 PM »

Question about Asics spikes -  I was one of the poor sods who got Asics gel advance 2's and they blistered the (No Swearing Please) out of my heel, to the extent that they were unwearable.

However, they were the lightest cricket shoes I've ever worn.

Can anyone tell me if the Gel 3's or 4's are any better (it would be great if a former blister-sufferer could comment)

Alternatively, can anyone tell me if any other of the Asics range are very light, yet offer greater comfort?

Ouch £85 though!  Are they any lighter than other cricket shoes though? I think that's the appeal of the Advances.

They're £64 on Aswani, they aren't specifically light but not heavy, but the support and comfort is incredible. Much better than my old Puma stealths!

In fact, I'm uttely confused by the Asics range, there are som many different types.

Are there ones that are supposed to be lighter than the others, or ones that are best for fielding and bowling.

Perhaps some of the ones I'm seeing on e-bay are discontinued?

I have seen them cheaper if you shop around, i managed to get mine for £38 on flea bay but seem to generally be around £45-£65

I had/have the Gel Advance 2's and they blistered me like crazy but I purchased some Gel Advance 4's for the season over here in Australia and they are fantastic. Wore the 4's for the first time yesterday and they were so comfy and light, plus the heel isn't that swede material, it's made out of some nice thick soft padding and I had absolutely no problems with rubbing on my heels whatsoever, much better than the 2's. The Gel 4's are a much, much better shoe than the 2's but the colour won't be to everyone's liking, but I love them. The 4's have a 7-2 stud construction, rather than the 6-2 on the 2's and 3's.

Asics shoes:
Speed Menace - Bowling shoe
Gel Advance 4's - Batting shoe
Gel 180 Not Out - Bowling All-rounder shoe
Gel Gully 2 - Batting All-rounder shoe
Strike Rate - General Allround shoe

I think they're putting Duomax into all of their shoes now (ie. 2012 UK range) ...

I had my running analysed by an Asics person and he said my running was fine and that I didn't need the duomax. But then I ended up with the strike rates that have it, not even sure what it does!

It's to prevent overpronation.

Can't rate the strike rates enough really very comfortable to bowl and bat in, the only thing I dont like is the spike alignment It's a bit hard to mark out your guard. Good overall shoe.
