Amazing what a refurb can do.....
« on: November 26, 2011, 02:47:35 PM »

Good afternoon all,

As you all know, I am always in the market for some good value willow, and I recently purchased what I think is a Kahuna 150. From the eBay listing, the pictures supplied was purely of the face and I could see some grains, and it looks like the stickers had been removed and replaced with some poor quality Nike stickers, but for the price I got it for, I thought I would couldnt go wrong with it after I give it a refurb. The bat itself weighs 2lb 9oz and I was keen to see what I had brought.

A short trip to the local post office collection point this morning gifted me with a bat box held together with more tape than cardboard, and I got home and opened it up. At first, I was disappointed and thought that it was a waste of money, however, after seeing some stories on this forum of good looking willow underneath the paint/bleached areas, I decided to strip it done and give it sand.

I am pleasently surprised at how it has come up and with 12 grains, I am surprised this bat wasnt graded higher! A decent stick indeed, and very impressed with what is, in essence, the lowest grade EW bat that Kookaburra offer. It does make me wonder sometimes why they ruin bats like this by painting the back of them. Anyway, some pictures......

that's a bit harsh. Not pretty but G3 willow maybe, I've seen similar GM 404's. Stickered up correctly (covering some of the worst areas) I'm sure it would appeal to many.

I agree with you hit4six. I bought a kahuna 150 sanded it down, the bat has about 13 grains.I knocked it in and the rebound is decent enough considering the amount spent.I am even considering even using as a match bat just to prove myself a point.I stickered it up but then the balance was affected.

I have no idea how it plays, but if we are grading on looks then that has got to be a low G4 in my opinion...

I'd have to agree with you, but then I've had grade 3 off james laver that definitely didn't look it.
