Well had an email today from Martin Berrill to say they have received my bat from Gray Nicolls and that it was now on its way to me and i should receive it Monday....Yay

Well after what seems like an eternity it finally arrived.
Weight is 2lb 10oz and im really impressed with the pickup. It feels lovely in the hands. The edges are massive. Taps up really well off the mallet. The face isnt particularly clean for a grade 2 with a few blemishes ( am i being too fussy?). Anyway here are a couple of quick pics.

Love it, Grainage doesn't look too bad. Looks quite dark so it probably highlights it more than usual.

What does perimeter weighted actually mean?
Apologies if it sounds silly but im intrigued to know how the weight that is removed from the spine is compensated.

does it mean the weight from the scoop is distributed evenly to the perimeter of the bat (to provide the large edges) or am i taking the phrase too much on face value.

This is the explanation for golf bats 

Perimeter-Weighted: (also 'cavity back, cavity-back') a style of club head where the mass is distributed more toward the perimeter (outside edges) of the club head in order to increase the effective size of the center of mass

Definition: Distribution of the weight in a clubhead more evenly around the club by moving more weight to the heel, toe and sole. Blades or muscleback irons have most of the weight right behind the center of the clubface. Cavity-back clubs are perimeter weighted, which has the effect of enlarging of making the club more forgiving on off-center hits

Im tempted to try one of these new scoops, they seem a fair price.

As a golfer im aware that its much easier to hit cavity back clubs are than blades, i dont see why the same isnt possible for cricket bats.

I have never been a fan of huge concaving as I have never been good enough to consistently middle the ball.

I dont see a problem with there being a lack of mass behind the middle, if the bat is pressed well then I dont think it will matter.
