Mitchell Johnson: Short Run Up
« on: November 20, 2011, 10:30:30 AM »

Anyone else noticed how much control Johnson has regained since he cut his run up down?

For those who haven't seen, he's coming off about 15 paces and looking like he's back to somewhere near what he's capable of

Fair enough he's an Aussie but its been a shame over the last few years to see someone with his talent underachieve so badly

Swinging and pitched up, but not threatening at all. Maybe why he got the one wicket for 101

showed good signs, bowled a lot of overs, much improved, bowled some unplayable deliveries as always but on this occasion stitched it together with a bit more consistency than normal

I have been watching, seeing how its moved around all test and par is 300, 1-101 is rubbish. If australia want to move forward then they need to dump him and play with 3 decent seamers and watson bit like sa and eng. No passengers.

Judging on how well Pat Cummins did, Australia might as well go with a youthful pace attack. Johnson is so low in confidence it's unreal he needs a good spell in County/State cricket, a crucial test match is not the best time to be tinkering with run ups. A test match bowler should be able to run in without thinking after all this is the top level of cricket I'm sure there are a few young Aussie bowlers chomping at the bit.

Considering how bad he has been at times any form of consistency is good. Theres no point in him hurling it down at 90 but not on the wicket. If he can keep it consistent and then focus on the couple more mph he has in him he should be more threatening. Hopefully.
1-101 is pretty rubbish but hopefully the start of an improved mitchell johnson, he can only get better aha

I do not hold out much hope to be honest.

Not the same guy as the Mitch Johnson of early lat 2008, early 2009.

Go for youth.

To me, he used to bowl around 150km/h and could get away with his eratic bowling to some degree at that pace. He dropped his pace a while back to try and get swing, but it hasn't worked, and now when he is erratic he gets spanked. His main weapons were his pace coupled with the bounce he got and being a leftie, but he has lost the first two and I don't think he can get them back at his age. Although Brett Lee bowled quick up to 34 so you never know.

Ben Cutting looks a likely replacement for him come the test series against NZ and India over here.
