Morning all,

Just wanted to get peoples opinion of the knocking in process by machine/hand offered over the internet?

I normally knock bats in myself and take particular care in doing so. Not sure if I'm getting older or more lazy (the latter more likely!) but I really don't have time at the minute to do so. Plus the tapping sound does wear then after a while!

Have people used the machine knocking in service if so what are peoples opinion?

Or if anyones knows of a hand knocking in service that you have used in he past that would be great.

if i am 100% honest i dont really spend long knocking my bats in..

luckly the last few bats ive had...

i just smashed them with a mallet for 30 mins then just used them and they have been fine.

if they are pressed well i see no problem using them (as long as your league use good quality balls)

I can understand that. There is still something in the back of my head though.......that nagging feeling! I mean I have a Newbery SPS handpicked, I also play with decent Dukes balls. You always worry about what might happen I guess.

Would also depend on where you bat. If you train with old balls, and you don't open or bat top 4, then you should be facing an older ball a fair bit and that won't affect the bat as much as a new one would. So you could get away with a bit less knocking in if you bat middle order.

I am having a bat prepared atm by KD sports over here in Oz, which I pick up tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure they knock the bat in by machine, so I can let you know what it's like when I get it. I'm sure others would have experience with a machine knocking in service though.

I've used the knocking in at CJI and it's excellent. Chris is as helpful as ever, and it works well. Bat came back knocked in well (not too much) and with a scuff sheet.


I've heard these machines can butcher soft-pressed bats though, so be careful.

There is a decent knocking in machine at Serious Cricket in Dummer (Not sure if they own it or Chase across the road do) Had a few bats knocked in on it and all have been done perfectly. It's personal preference though, some believe that the machine can be too aggressive and maybe for some very softly pressed bats it is but I have personally never had any problems and I know of no one who has.
