Im being tasked with making a school team some bats and just wondered what weights we are looking at. I know the dimensions of the bat etc but just wondered if anyone had an idea on a weight range? Im going to check to see what they use atm but just for a guideline.

well they are spread between years 6-8 i believe. havent received all the info on them yet.  they are all going to need size 6 or harrows so im told.

If the kids are aged between 6 and 8 then size 6 and Harrows will be miles too large. Usual 6 to 8 year olds are the right height for a size 3 bat.

Years 6-8 i think he meant as in school years. So 10-13 years old

school years 6-8 not age. age wise id guess 10- 14 approx

A size 6 will be about 2lb 1oz - 2lb 4oz and a harrow will be 2lb 4oz - alb 6oz. You don't want to make them any heavier than that.

2.2-4 weight range is think mate...last size 6 I had was 2.2 and one left in the office is 2.3....harrows are 2.4 but big bats for the weight

2.4 is way too heavy for a child! That used to be the weight of an average adult bat. These kids are only 6-8 aren't they?

I'd say try to go as light as you can as colts that age play with a plastic ball or lightweight cricket ball at best so there's no need to give them a heavy bat as you don't get any value for your shots. Another thing to consider might be binding them in a fibre cover like you used to get in the nineties to protect them from the inevitable spell being left out in the rain!

My son is 9 years old but is quite tall for his age and im looking at size 5 bats

I'm a PE teacher at a middle school, so teach years 5-8. Most of our bats are size 5 or 6. Some of the pupils in year 8 (age 12-13) would be tall enough for a harrow, but they are often still not quite strong enough to use a heavier bat effectively. A light harrow would be OK though.

My size 6 woodworm is 2lb exactly and my size harrow mongoose is 2lb 4oz, however it is one of the heaviest harrows at my club. Probably looking at no more than 2lb 4oz for a harrow and 2lb 2oz for a size 6?
