I purchased a rather nice lam from Asad this weekend and am going to knock it in myself.

This will be the first time that I have done it and I was hoping for a bit of advice. I have looked at the messages in here but can't find exactly what I want.

I'm not going to be able to spend 5+ hours doing this, but wondered if anyone could give me any advice?

Basically just to know when I have done enough? Also any recommendations regarding scuff sheet and edge tape? I think I'd like it without, is that a bad idea?

The general concensus is to knock in without Scuff sheet and to round off the edges on the bath or a similarly hard round object.
The only way you'll know its ready is when you come to use it against a ball with a seam (ie; not BOLA Ball) any deep indentations then you'll need to get your mallet out again!

I would concentrate more on the edge and toe area. I normally spend around 1-2 hours max. The easy way to check if sufficient knocking has been done or not is to tap a fairly new ball and see if there are any strong seam marks on the bat. If there are then it needs more knocking.

I always put a scuff sheet just for extra protection but it is up to u.
