Bat handles
« on: April 04, 2009, 04:30:58 PM »

I was wondering how much would it cost to buy a cricket bat handle - long or short handle - i've got a bat at home which needs the job doing, i wouldnt mind having a go at doing it myself - i have plenty of tools for the job, my dad has worked in woodwork for over 30 years so he has a massive garage full of them. Would people say that this is an easy or difficult job to do?
Any input would be much apprecciated.

They can be bought from any good batmaker, Fusion have handles available I'm sure. Or you could try Nixon, Hawk, Newbery, Hell4Leather. All of those guys handle and press so should have a stock of them.

Can't see one costing you anymore than a tenner.

Cheers for the help, i got quoted £35 and i thought i should be able to do this cheaper myself. Could anybody give me any tips for removing the handle, would i want to try and dissolve the bond between the bat and the handle or is it simply a case of removing via other means?

Saw it out, then saw the replacement handle to fit.

That's how the handle will come (the 3rd item from the left) hope Hell4Leather don't mind me using their image here.

Cool, thats sounds simple enough, but i'm sure there's alot of room for error. Thanks for the information, looking forward to having a go at this! cheers

I can get you the handle unsawn, sawn or for a rehandle sawn slightly smaller to allow better fitting as a replacement.

That would be grand, if you could get hold of a handle that is slightly sawn so it leaves me with less room for error i would really apprecciate it. How much would you want?

It would be £5 plus £3 for postage. It is slightly smaller than a normal sawn handle as the old one is normally cut out and the splice is thus a touch smaller than the original.
