Managed to get a game
« on: April 23, 2012, 08:14:11 AM »

Well despite the shocking weather we actually managed to get a game in yesterday against South Bank CC, who had just laid a brand new artificial pitch.  We batted first and were bowled out for a truly terrible 88 from 22 overs, with yours truly batting at 4 and doing a very good impersonation of Dravid by occupying the crease for 12 overs and scoring 2 runs!

The pitch (although I'm sure it will benefit South Bank CC over time) being brand new was probably the worst I've played on as the ball kept very low although the worst part for me was the fact that it was so slow it was very hard to get the ball of the square (especially as I'm not the biggest guy around), so you were left with 3 choices 1 Smash it and hope, 2 Nudges and Nurdles, or 3 as the South Bank keeper (thoroughly nice guy for an Aussie  :)) showed us was to to come down the wicket and negate the pitch.  A true reflection of the slowness of the pitch was seen when he swept, yes swept, one our clubs better bowlers!  Fielding was pretty miserable as by the time we got into the field the clouds had come in and were threatening rain and hail, making it feel like we had moved from South London to Siberia (I still haven't thawed out)!

Despite all this it was good to be back out on the pitch, and congratulations and thanks must go to South Bank CC for giving us a game and for playing the conditions so well, as well as being a thoroughly nice bunch.  Thanks a lot guys and good luck for the rest of the season.
