kookaburra ricky ponting kahuna have pittard palms. I have one BN RH mens pair for sale

I know that most of the top batting gloves have them and that they are something to do with the leather in the palms, however I don't actually know what they are. So can someone please do me a favor by explaining what they are and what beneficial properties they have?
