oiling

I've just received a bat back from a refurb and have oiled it lightly and want to now apply a scuff sheet.
tried it last night and the scuff sheet didn't stick so tried to remove any excess oil with a cloth but was wondering whether there was any other way you could get it ready for the sheet. how long should it take for the oil to sink in enough?

24 hours should be fine. You can always give the face a very light sand once dried. Very or sand paper will work.
