« on: July 04, 2008, 04:49:36 PM »

Whats everyone think of this article? He raises some good points especially the performances against good teams... but overall its just selective stat picking if you ask me!

I actually agrewe with some of the points he makes. I actually rate Tendulkar very, very highly (as i'm sure most do) but for me he is second to Lara because lara did what he did in every country and conditions where to me Tendulkar only really does it in the sub continat, he has occasional brilliant times, like that tour in Australia but for me he's not consistent enough in swinging conditions.
Even after what i've said i still rate him as sheer talent and achievements as equal to Lara's.

I hate Lara hes just greedy... he would rather get a century and lose than get a 50 and win!!
Selfish batting by him when he made 400 runs really... they could have won if he had declared earlier!

They'd allready lost the series iirc so what was wrong with going for his 400? I would have done the same as him. Anyway you have to be selfish to achieve in cricket especially as a batsmen.

Take that back Nozza!!! lol

Well considering th eamount of time he has played, you cant compare him as a 19 year old to how he plays now. You need to think also his vast in experience in facing Waqar to Akram to Warne to McGrath to Walsh.

But that is that problem people expect too much of Sachin, the younger guys need more responsibility, Sachin has learned to back off a bit. The reason India has dropped all its senior players barring Sachin.

Sachin knows best how the game works. Yes he is injury-prone even as we speak but his game is unfortunatley coming to a close i doubt he will embarass himself by retiring in averaging 15 in his last one-day series if he believes his body is fit enought to go on I'm sure he has a lot more tons to score. And lets all hope he does. Who wouldn't miss those gorgeous coverdrives as he steps into the line of offstump and see the ball flash off the MRF clad bat towards the boundary. WOW!! Lets hope he has many more tons to come.

The anticipation of him emerging from the pavilion, and his walk from the boundary to the centre, is almost surreal. The sound of a passionate Indian crowd all chanting "Sachin, Sachin" as they wait in anticipation, followed by the enormous roar when he emerges onto the field, is electrifying.

Oh and this article was written a couple of yeras ago which is when i think Sachin's elbow was busy playing tennis. Therefore a backlash by an Indian journalist.

fair call but i think the only reason the indian selectors haven't  dropped him as they dont have the balls to drop him. They probably considered profits, revenue and entertainment (if he performed) and the massive public backlash that comes with dropping great players.

I am inclined to agree with you sambo. Tendulkar is a god to the indian public and if they dropped Tendulkar there would be a massive backlash. Also the amount of money they would lose as some indian fans only go to watch The little master bat and if he's not playing they might not go.

true. another valid reason is im sure he has many many many tips to give to the younger batsmen and to teach them, i mean imagine having sachin as a coach.....yes please.
