an old warrior

I don't know if this old warrior will bring back memories for some of you. Not used in 25 years! An awesome lump of wood, 3 lb on the button and with very slinky edges compared to today's bruisers. Pics aren't the greatest, so apologies for that.

Like me, I think she could do with a drink Luke! If you look closely at the back of blade shot, there's a bit of a 'ding' near the toe caused by rolling my wrists too early on a pull shot - it still went out of the ground! Tribute to the quality of the willow rather than my bat speed I think!  :D

We could all do with a drink my friend!  ;)

All the same it is a very desirable piece of wood.....I reckon someone might offer you some serious cash for this! I love the original bat sleeve...it completes the bat perfectly!

That's a very early Newbery, must be approx 30 years old now. I wish the current Newbery company would do some retro styled bats like this one.

Hmmm, but IIRC, this Newbery company and the one we have now happen to be two separate entities...

Correct the original 1980s company got into financial difficulties and was acquired by Readers. The current Newbery company is was a completely new company. There was also a connection to Zenith sports in between.

It is indeed a very early one. I think in that era Newbery went down a few blind alleys - counterbalanced bats (Merlin?) which didn't do very well. You could probably argue that the Excalibur was another one, though they did get some decent publicity with Lance Cairns and Malcolm Marshall using it. But the quality of their bats was excellent and they weren't silly prices either.
