4000 vs 5000 pads
« on: January 02, 2013, 09:01:32 PM »

Hi,

Was just asking the opinion on if you think there is that much difference between the 4000 and 5000 versions of the puma pads. Whether they offer that much difference with regards to protection and comfort?

Cheers in advance!

Unless you play at a high level I would say not.
My mate's Iridium 4000s are a really nice pad and I borrow them a fair bit. In the last innings of last season I got pinned lbw by a quick and didn't feel anything.

I had some puma tribute 4000's and sold them early last year. Really nice pads and to be honest I know we all like the top of the range kit but at times the model below is probably better unless you play at a high level. I found when I swapped to some top of the line GM's they were just too bulky so I ended up selling them. Having said that I remember reading some advice once to always buy the best gloves possible so I'd probably only apply this next model down logic to pads.

The main difference would be the materials used. You may find that there will be a leather instep in the 5000, but a PU one in the 4000. The filling may be different too, and there should also be a slight difference in protection. Looks wise they will be pretty much the same. There is a bigger difference between the 4000 and 3000 series though.

Cheers for the advice, I was going to go for the 5000 gloves. But think i will go for the cheaper option of the 4000 pads then.

I had a pair of Puma Stealth 4000 pads a couple of seasons ago and couldn't fault the protection and were pretty lightweight too.

Personally I always go for the best protection in gloves.
