Living as a student in Cornwall, I tend to up in some pretty damp houses.
I use lightweight cricket bats (2lb 7/8), only to find that over the winter- or even a few months, they've put on weight (up to 2lb 10/11)!

Is there any way to prevent this before I get my beautiful, sentimentally-important RPC sent down to me for the pre-season?

Probably 3 generous coats of oil & stored in sealed Bubble wrap sheet.

Ah uni living. I once lived in the converted garage of a house. It was the only room with double glazing, apart from they'd not finished the filling in around the window and you could see outside! Needless to say it was extremely cold!!

Could you put the bats near the boiler or airing cupboard, these tend to be fairly warm and might help you out.

Ideally you need somewhere dry ventilated and away from condensation as the willow needs to be able to breathe

Did you not think of getting a cheap tube of filler? Then sebd the landlord the bill?
