Kook/GM Players reviews?
« on: November 17, 2012, 10:42:33 PM »

Do any of you guys have any experience with these top range bats?

Last seasons models are going for half price on some places, which makes them much more accessable to the common pleb, but its still a massive outlay and no cheaper than most top of the line custom companies, baring the top lavers and scats.

I have searched for reviews on here with no luck, have used a few of the lower end models over the years, some good, some poor.

Interested in hearing about peoples experiences.

I have use a GM icon JT, Bradbury Players and more recently a GM Icon RT.

The best thing about these bats is the pick-up and balance. The willow on the JT and Bradbury was exceptional. The willow on the RT is very good as well and definitely better than what you get on a std Original LE.

My team mate has a Kahuna Players and though it has a nice profile and very nice grains, both of us agree that his bat is not as good as the Bradbury Players and the Icon RT & JT.

But for £250, you can't complain as it is tremendous value for money.

there are a few reviews of these bats around (not the kook from memory, but that did win the aoc bat test)

the problem you have is that no one on here would buy a bat like that and say it was a plank.

if you did get a poor one,  I think it would be reasonable to say it would be replaced pretty quick. certainly gm's customer care would look after you!

Have to say though I have had 2 GM's, both Original LE and both spectacular. Only one looked the goods but both certainly played to Original LE standards

I have used a Kook Kahuna Players and will have to say i did not notice any difference from my Salix at half the price. IMO opinion they are no better than there respective grade 1 bats ie Kook 808 or GM original but they charge £500 odd for a laser etched name. I agree with your thinking that end of season sale reductions make them more accessible but for the money even half price is still £250 odd are they worth it?

Am going to have to say best players grade bats I have seen is the GM Watson Flare though its the only one I have seen and held lol!!!! But a friend of mine had one and it developed a tiny hairline crack in the back of the bat while he was knocking it in and GM replaced it no questions asked!!! I know a few pros and minor county players and they rated the GM bats above the Kook  players and on a par with top end Lavers.

I had a Recoil Players which was an unbelievable bit of willow.  Sadly it got a crack in the handle towards the end of the season, but Kookaburra have just replaced it and let me take my pick from the 2013 range.  Just received a Kahuna Players 2013 as a replacement and it looks equally fantastic.  I prefer it by quite a way to my Laver Reserve and an Oblivion LE I sold.  But it all comes down to preference - the Laver is an equally brilliant bit of wood but is just too heavy for me.

I do think Kookaburra sometimes get a lot of stick, especially on this forum.  Last year the Kahuna Players won the AOC bat test and this year the Richochet came 1st, and the Menace 2nd in a Cricket Insight bat test.  I would love to try a top end GM Players or an F2 OLE.  Had a Duellist LE back in the day which was brilliant.

I have just purchased a Calibre 6000. Sweet sweet bat. It has been used in nets and ball machine for a couple of weeks. It's well balanced and just the sort of bat that makes you think you can bat all day. Its not quite as powerful as my Thruxton or Black Cat bats but it's very close. Well worth the money at that price.
