Would you....................
« on: December 15, 2012, 01:57:32 PM »

Some of you may have noticed that I have a few pairs of what can only be described as 'old style' keeping gloves. (was going to put 'classic' but thought it a bit too much)

Anyway, I have in my collection a pair of Bob Taylor 'Test' gloves. Picture to follow. It seems in the 70's and 80's that any keeper worth his salt had gloves made (mainly by Geoff Wymer) and had a 'club' and 'Test' version.

Taylors Test match gloves were unwebbed and initially he had them made by Bertie Oldfield in Australia.

These are made by 'Mitre' or at least marked up as. (I spoke to young Mr Wymer last week about getting some gloves made like Knottys and he told me he made gloves for Bob Taylor and even still had Godfrey Evans hand sizes amongst his collection)

Anway I digress.

Basically what I going to ask is as a modern era keeper...............Would you wear unwebbed gloves or do we rely on webbing too much.

My view is that say 1 or 2 flyers end up in the webbing, the rest nesstle nicely wear they should be.

The gloves are so so supple and with a second pair I got £15 off ebay I webbed them myself

Sorry for a long thread but we needed some wicket keeping stuff put up to compete with Chads amazing bat display

I played a game without webbing on the gloves before I got my own for my part time duties.

Old club gloves that had been destroyed by someone lol

I'd have it off mate:

Does anyone else think that the standard of keeping is lower now than before?

Lovely effort with the webbing, I'd go old school, no webbing, I'd also consider thining out the cuff padding to, its often quite thick. Like you say its not many that stick in there, and you'll look cool as (No Swearing Please) with out it, also you can rib other keepers that have it... its a win win, until you drop one down the leg side, but you've got to back your self!!!  ;)
