Just wondering how I could keep a new pair of batting pads sweat free- was thinking about using some waterproofing spray on the inside which could stop the sweat from soaking in. Any thoughts on this?

Only thought is if you have a long innings, the skin on your shins will get horribly irritated if the sweat has nowhere to go?

Not normally a problem for me! Longest I would normally bat for is in the nets. I was thinking that sweat would just soak into my trousers a bit more but unsure what to do

Mate I don't really think there is anything you can do it's just a case of putting them out to dry in the sun, which I know is a hard thing to do here in raining old England but to just get rid of the smell u could just spay some deodorant in them after they have dried

Not so much the smell, it's the horrible yellow staining and the dampness.

I take my pads out of my bag when I'm not using them and leave them in the garage rather than have them fester in my bag stinking. Also a spray of febreeze helps

I have the same problem. During the season its not a problem even though I bat fairly long periods in games as it dries in the sun or I just lay it out when I get home in the house.  HOwever, winter time is horrible. It pretty much destroys my kit because it ends up sitting around the house and I train in shorts usually so come 3 or 4 months of winter nets they.. well basically stink. Fabreeze works to get rid of the smell but you can see if you look at the back that theres been loads of sweat. I've concluded there is bugger all I can do about it so just never leave it in the car, in the bag after use, in garages etc etc. At least they don't get damp etc.

Unfortunately I don't think there is much you can do unless you're like Alastair Cook and don't sweat but you could try large football socks and run them to just below your knee to help as an additional layer of sweat absorption.

I'm extremely vigilant and hygienic so ensure other bits don't get dirty.

I don't really mind yellow stains as I see little can be done to prevent that, this is how I keep my pads after every nets;

A set of skins ice tights worn underneath my whites does the trick for me.

usually wear them under shorts to nets too.

A couple of years ago i left a pair of socks that had been worn for 2 50 over games in my match bag over the winter (October-April) as i use a duffle for nets and never checked what was in my bag before putting it away,  the smell was unbelievable.
