Dynadrives - Old and New
« on: January 02, 2013, 11:28:27 AM »

As no-one has yet posted a comparison of the two, here are the old and new Dynadrives side by side. There are some noticeable differences in shape, but the biggest thing for me is the size difference given that the new one is only one ounce heavier at 2lb 9.9oz.

Here are this pictures for your delectation...

So in your opinion Tim where does the extra size come from?

Amazingly small difference in weight there when the newer one looks so much bigger  ???!

Great comparison shots these.
Interesting to see that the edges on the original are a constant size almost the whole way down the blade and that there is a far more pronounced "hump" as you get to the scoops rather than a gradual gradient on the new one.
Bigger edges and spine on the new one, possibly a slighly smaller toe?
Do you think the scoops are any deeper than on the original?

For starters I prefer the old stickers. Obviously its probably as being original they just feel more historic!

Im guessing the change in pressing techniques will account partly for the size difference, although its a fair old size difference!

The flatter face on the new one is the main reason it's bigger.  I think the new one has a nicer profile too, and more of a bow.

Great comparison pics Tim,

From the looks of it new one has obviously bigger edges and spine but also has deeper scoops...would be intersted to know your thoughts on performance of new vs old. I have mine all wrapped up sitting in the bag as I almost don't to use it  :(

I wish they had done all black stickers and black paint for the scoops on the new ones...

I'd also say that the other big difference is the depth and width of the scoops. On the newer one I'd say they are wider and deeper. The other thing I'd not thought about is that there is a second grip on the old one, so that will add an extra ounce.

Yes Dave, I do remember them. This edition is the second or third iteration of the stickers, if i remember correctly.

Great comparison pics. Totally forgot there's a little hump in the profile just below the splice. Very nice Tim!
