The Stretton Fox Full Monty
« on: December 15, 2013, 11:29:47 PM »

Hi all,

Firstly, this forum has a lot to answer for; after an extended absence from my usual lurking, I've returned and found myself spending a ludicrous amount of money on stash (helmet, bat, spikes and more) in the last two weeks! However, I will forgive you for introducing me to Stretton Fox.

In the new year, I'm planning to spend a few months at an academy in WA. Watching the first few Ashes tests has convinced me that I want a full set of guards to protect me from these nasty Antipodeans and their chin music. After reading the rave reviews of SF's products and customer service in this section, I emailed George to express an interest and we arranged to speak on the phone. I can only echo what has already been said on here about the man; friendly, enthusiastic and both extremely passionate and knowledgeable about his products (and the subject of protection in general). Although George did not at any point try to 'push' a sale, I was sold pretty quickly and agreed in principle to buy a full set of guards (outer, inner, hipster, chest, arm and WK).

Over the last week, I have been discussing shapes (although the cut-and-stick SF templates were already remarkably accurate) and aesthetics with George by email. He has interpreted my muddled instructions into a design that I'm really pleased with and will hopefully be working on them over the next few days. Pictures and possibly the standard 'mallet test' should follow in due course.

Although the proof is obviously in the pudding, if the products come even close to matching the service then I will be recommending them to anyone who will listen!

Sounds like a man with a plan to survive.
Reckon those Aussies might just try and see if a ball will fit up your left nostril, just for a laugh. ;)

Absolutely love mine, however if I was you I'd just go straight with the bespoke straps as they keep the pads more secure then the elastic style white normal ones... They're a top buy though and look very good with the Gold lettering!

This might help

Carbon fibre as well, reckon SF or Ayrtek could make you a custom one  ;)

Looks like you've got everything else covered, SF kit looks superb.

Just had another daft idea, extra padding for your box???

These all arrived in good order this morning and I'm very impressed. I won't post further photos or a video as I'm not sure what more I can add but will echo other comments on here about quality of product and service.

The materials and craftsmanship all seem of very high quality. Too early to comment on wear and tear but the stitching seems solid and the velcro surfaces don't seem to snag or catch so should hopefully last a long time. The internal spacer fabric is comfortable and I imagine will handle sweat a bit better than my old Aeros! Also a nice touch from George to throw in the natty SF gym bags to carry the guards.

The protection lives up to reputation if the customary mallet test is anything to go by; amazing from such a thin layer of material. Coverage is good and the fit is very comfortable after a bit of flexing and moulding, particularly on the chest guard which I had some doubts about beforehand. I agree with the above on straps, the thicker ones really hold everything in place, but it's nice to have both options and the plains are more discrete for the external arm guard. Will be interesting see how well the thighs will sit as I lumber up and down the wicket is that is where I struggled with the Aeros; having to adjust them after run became pretty tedious.

In summary, very pleased with the whole package at this stage. I haven't stressed the quality of service anywhere near enough but I can only urge anyone who is at all interested in any SF product to get in touch with George and see for themselves; I doubt they'll be disappointed!
