is that a vineyard. As a yard over here is a bit like coronation street.

Haha if you are in the city its small, but i moved in Oct to a new house thats a little outside and comes with a big yard, I needed that so I could let my son run around and have fun as well as build a pitch/net for when he gets older :)....was really trying to convince my wife to move a little further away as there was a house with 3 acres of landscaped & fenced etc etc.. but was too far for here liking...

They are different trees

English Willow

Family : Salicaceae
Genus : Salix
Species : Alba
Variety : caerulea

Kashmir Willow

Family : Salicaceae
Genus : Salix
Species : Alba
Variety : Fragilii

Not 100% sold on this... Only thing I can find on this variety is called crack willow or brittle willow due to it easily susceptible cracking or breaking in wind, ice and snowy conditions and is grown as an ornamental tree.

Not doubting your knowledge just can't find any info to confirm this.

hmmmm maybe some EWNI are Fraglii then and therefore the myth of them being heavy... The main reason Salix Fragilis isnt used here.

Actually EWNI must be alba and Kashmir willow maybe a mix.... I'm getting confused myself now!!!!

I'm pretty sure that Kashmir isn't 100% Fragilis - precisely due to the issues of getting a usable cleft out of it. Wouldn't be a surprise if it was a cross though.

Also willow in India could end up in a fruit crate they dont [or didn't] have specialist bat willow merchants for there willow...

The answer to the original question - If you want to be sure you are buying English willow buy from a reputable source! If you are paying £25 for a brand new bat from EBay in all likelihood it is Kashmir

It was off a mate who didn't want it. Fake stickers and the like, so would probably agree that it would seem to be Kashmir, however I want to be certain as I might try to sell it on now I have taken the decals off.

I got a bat from ebay many moons ago that i am 99% sure is kashmir. It was advertised as low grade EW

As others have said the grains are not clear and the wood is noticeably harder to the touch and slightly darker. It also picks up like a telegraph pole
