Here is the first attempt I've had at refurbing a cricket bat.

It was a sports direct slazenger (kashmir willow) that I was given because the edge was broken. I know some of you will see refurbing a kashmir willow bat as a waste of time but I didn't want to ruin a decent bit of willow getting it wrong.

I didn't have a pic of it with the stickers or tape on there so this is just after I started


This is how it looked after I sanded it down and used the carpet cleaner trick for bleaching that I saw someone post on here


And this is what it looks like after it's been oiled again to get it back to a healthy level of moisture.


Any tips or opinions would be much appreciated, but it was only my first attempt so don't go too harsh on me

You don't need to oil after bleaching as it brings out the imperfections again . Not a criticism .

I assume you aren't looking to use this against anything other than a tennis ball in which case they will be ok.

When sanding back you usually strip it back to the new white willow to give the as new look. I have never used carpet cleaner on a bat as elbow grease will solve the issue before resulting to chemical warfare i find.

Agree with tom all you need is loads of sandpaper a bit of wire wool and some kind of oil/wax/batwax and time and a strong arm mate

can i just asked why u bleeched the wood ? instead of just sanding it all so its clean?

sorry buddy but im so glad you did this to a cheap Kashmir bat, what in the world made you use staples

Get a small electric detail sander they are only cheap and if you use different grades of sandpaper with that you will pretty quickly get a bat back to the clean white wood and no need to bleach it. Also will save a lot of hard work sanding by hand.

If you're interested on trying a small refurb on a "proper" bat, I have one that needs doing, I just haven't got the time to do it myself at the moment. Shouldn't take too much work. You can buy the bat off me. If you're interested,I can show you pics.
