Short-Sighted'ness '

So I've just been diagnosed with having short sighted vision.
My main questions are:
How much can this affect playing cricket?
And will I need to wear glasses/contacts for playing? (unfortunately the optician said I shouldn't need to but I've noticed how bad it is when batting recently)

I would never bat or bowl without my glasses or contacts. I can't tell you how it would affect your cricket, as I had my glasses when I was 10 and I only started cricket about 3 years afterwards. One thing I will say is get a pair which don't slip easily and use them for cricket. Also depends on how old you are, but maybe look to get some contacts as well, as I find I am slightly more comfortable playing cricket without glasses!

I think I'm going to have to net with my glasses and see how I get on and then go from there.
I know it could be rust, but the past 2 nets Ive had, I've batted shockingly. Not a touch on last year.

I have shortsightedness also and have found the best way to train is to replicate in nets what you will experience in the game situation. So for me, that means wearing contacts at all training / nets sessions as that's what I wear in games. I found if I wore my glasses on a sunny day and had a long-ish innings, my glasses got affected by the sweat and became off-putting. Would recommend lens all the way if required.

Or just get the laser surgery!

I bat/bowl/field in glasses. no biggie.
Takes few sessions to get used to - I even got prescriptions on my Oakleys.
Never felt it as a burden.

Prescription lenses with my adidas evil eye sunglasses set me back around £180

I find bowling in glasses uncomfortable, so wear contacts.

after years of refusing to wear my glasses

i do it :) seeing the ball for the full 22 yards rather than the last 10 is defo better for me lol

I wear contacts for matches as wicketkeeping with glasses I find a real pain taking the helmet on and off when standing up. Batting with glasses is fine though and I do this at nets.
