Powerspot - Can it be repaired?
« on: May 22, 2013, 11:49:13 AM »

With all the rumours floating around of the return of the powerspot i finally got round to getting some pics of my dads old powerspot. It was purchased in around 1984(i remember seeing the old red stickering with gold spot iirc) it used to get sent back for refurb after every season and i reckon this has scored about 5-6k runs at least. it was passed to me who used it for a season and i then promptly cracked it  >:(

So the question is can it be repaired - i think it has had a botched repair job on it already but i'm hoping for a better quality of repair - if i send it back to gray nics would they resticker it as part of the repair??

As you can see the split appears to have followed one of the grains. Has the time come to retire this vintage bat? I'd love to use it again as it still has an awesome middle on it!!

Gray Nics had some power spot stickers last time I was there. No guarantee they are still there but worth a shot, better to do it now as the new powerspot release for next year will probably have a modern twist on the classic design to fit in with the rest of the heritage range, legend, scoop, Dynadrive etc.

You can go direct to Gray Nics or via a retailer like ourselves, who would then get it arranged with GN. Notentirely sure who would offer a better price, but for most things retailers offer a better price as Gray Nics prefer you to deal with us.

I've just sent my Gray Nics off for a tidy up and refurb.  I just filled in the sheet:

http://www.gray-nicolls.co.uk/userfiles/files/quick%20price%20list.pdf

Can't comment on the job done as it's still at Gray Nics currently but with regards to the sheet and the choices, there seems to be infinite possibilities/combinations.  £36 for the repair and refurb going off the paperwork.  Sounds costly but judging by the work and hours that'll be needed to fix the problem it probably works out cheap per hour!  Could also look at it as getting a 'new' bat for £36 when it arrives!  Just my thoughts - love seeing old classics restored.  Only problem I can think of is if they have the original stickers?

Yeah when the bat was sent back for a refurb around that time it came back with new stickering. Its definately an early 80's Powerspot.
