Not quite. The 2mm is the drop from the middle of the face to the edge. Same for the F7 and 7mm drop.

It has always slightly upset the mathematical pedant side of me to hear people talk of a 2 or 7mm radius on a bat.

knocking in finishes the pressing process creating a hard layer which protects the bat and helps the "trampoline" effect when you hit the ball.

the concept of "opening-up" is where the grains on the bat begin to show minimal cracks and when the bat is at its peak - see
http://www.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2013/content/image/647677.html?object=566929;page=1

for an extended example.

The two are different. Personally the phrase "opening up" I think is a horrible expression and is over used on here - especially as most people don't use the bat enough to get to that stage (frequently more than 500 runs!!)

Well explained.
