It was on a deck above the grass, right next to the house

Any idea how to get rid of it? Preferably don't want to sand

As long as it won't affect performance, I'll live!

Dab it with a cloth dipped in diluted liquid bleach. Just enough to lightly moisten the wood, don't soak it in bleach. Once dry and spots are gone, some light oiling.
