Handle shape ?
« on: April 26, 2013, 09:21:13 PM »

Hi I'm new to this forum and would like to pick some bat experts brains . Basically I am using a Cicada bat ( at least the stickers are cicada- they use a round handle bow which i dont like ) from a couple of years ago and I really like the handle shape . I have tried to find a make of bat with a similar handle shape and have tried to have it replicated but that has its difficulties . Can anyone help me from looking at the photos below .
It is not a typical oval handle and almost has a bit of a ridge which sits between thumb and first finger v on bottom hand . It also gets chunkier as you go down the handle . Any assistance would be greatly appreciated . I will post some pics

MH have handles like that or you could use strapping tape from boots and recreate it

It seems to me that there is a trend towards thinner handles. My new bat (GN XXX) has an extremely thin handle, I almost contemplated adding a 3rd grip and I don't have big hands. Used it for the first time in the nets last week and it was really good, found it was far easier to grip the bat and felt great in the hands. I'd call it semi-oval, not as oval as some but not completely round. Gunn and Moore seem to be going down this path too, a teammate got the new Maestro and it was very similar to my bat...

are the manufacturers moving toward thinner handles to save weight and put it into the blade and thicker edges that everyone wants these days?  ???

That would be an interesting theory, because if they decided to have the handle lighter and more wood in the blade, that obviously affects pick-up and balance. A 2lb 9oz bat with more weight in the handle will feel better than a 2lb 9oz bat with less weight in the handle and more in the blade.
