I think if someone is good enough to be selected then they should be given 10 test matches at least to prove themselves.

Bailey only got 5 tests and Quiney got 2 Tests... that is not enough to make a judgement either way. So why were they dropped? (or why were they selected in the first place?)

Good point Cedrictoad.  I'd add Kawalja in that group as well.
Reading Pontings book at the moment he alludes it is better to give a player 1 test too many than 1 too few!

Nice to see it didn't take awp long to return to personal insulting people. TROLL

Doolan injured this morning? Could this be a route back for bailey if it turns out to be long term?
Or Hughes?

My guess is it'll be down purely to the pitches they were playing on, they were probably hoping that Bailey would come out and tear England to bits like he'd be doing recently in the ODI's before the Ashes

Still a bit of a stab in the back by dropping him from the test squad but keeping him as ODI captain...

What happens if Bailey scores a big hundred (or two) in the remaining ODIs?  Does he all of a sudden become a better selection?  Or is he written off now?

I agree that Usman Khawaja was discarded before he was given a proper chance... he is such a talented classy batsman (in my opinion he is test quality).

The reason Australia have been so successful is because of their willingness to give players a chance to settle into the team and get comfortable before they are assessed (to be fair it is much easier when you are winning... which I might add Australia did in the Ashes).

If Doolan pulls out (poor guy getting selected for your country and then getting injured) then who gets the golden ticket?

The pitch conditions may come into it, but SAF pitches are probably the most similar to Australian pitches... so if Bailey was good enough to play in the Ashes in Australia then I can't see pitch conditions coming into it.

Maybe it is more of a confidence thing mixed with a bit of fear of him being exposed by the SAF pace battery?

Everyone knows the statistics..... But I can assure you that anyone who is anyone in the Australian cricket set up knows that Shaun marsh is the second best batsman in the country, full stop.  Many regard him as basically the 'second coming'. Obviously it hasn't worked out fully for him (or Australia's hopes) yet.  Let's see if maturity and being injury free will see him realize his potential.

Do you seriously believe this?  :o :o

Past performance is a guide to future performance (regardless to what financial regulators think)
Marsh has batted 154 times in first class cricket, he has scored 4764 runs at 35 with only 8 hundreds and 25 50's. I appreciate there is room for a Trescothic/Vaughan style pick when they are 24 or so, but Marsh is 30.

If he is indeed the second best batsman in Australia, then I will eat the remaining haribo blue smurfs I have next to me in one mouthful and not choke.

I agree that Usman Khawaja was discarded before he was given a proper chance... he is such a talented classy batsman (in my opinion he is test quality).

When Australia were the best team in the world, they never seemed to have a bad batting pick (there were a few seamers who got a game when perhaps they shouldn't).  The reason for that was that there was only ever one slot up for grabs - number six - and the new guy came in there and was bedded in before the order was rearranged however slightly to suit the next new man in.  Even the guys who didn't go on to have long careers - Martyn Love and Stuey Law spring to mind - were given that chance.

Note how England mimicked this for about five years.

For Khawaja, you could just as easily read Root, Bairstow, Hughes, Quiney, Taylor et al ad nauseum.  In, then out, then in again but in a different slot then oops, dropped, then back to open.  With very few exceptions, this is a strategy that always fails - ask Ramps and Greame Hick!

I must be a bit thick I have only realized that awp's comment was directed at me.lol My comments were my opinion on baileys comments and surely as such are open to interpretation. Sadly the Australian selectors have robbed Mr Bailey of his chance to shine against an extremely capable South African attack. He didn't really shine against an extremely demoralized English attack on his own turf in the recent series so I am sure Steyn Morkel and the rest of the Proteas attack weren't going to lose any sleep over him. Asp was correct I am a bit thick but just round the middle but I would rather say I am build for comfort. Lol

Swannys comments about cricket coming back to bite certain players on the bum were about the aussie players im sure not KP.
Some of the comments made by warner and this idiot bailey have been just wrong.
On the field fine,no england players have complained...off the field yes damn right stuff said has been out of order.
We lost heavily, the aussies deserved to win everyone knows that, but the aussie batting line up is not world class like 2005 or 2006 apart from clarke
Its their bowlers that have won it for them, haddin has been excellent but bailey is not test class by a long shot
It just a shame morkel and stein cant sort him out as pointed out above

Hughes would be pretty dejected right now. Averaging 60 something this year, hitting a double century. He has hit runs against this S.A attack before, and North has done so as well. And they still pick those two before him. I actually really enjoy watching Marsh bat well but that doesn't happen often enough.

To be honest Bailey missed out on a few flat decks against a pretty stressed out bowling line up. Plus just because you are spanking the white ball around doesn't mean anything when it comes to red ball cricket.
