Heartwood is more brittle and best in the least used edge.

Its where the sap has moved out near the outer section. Very common in tight grain bats as inside of cleft usually has more grains.

Heartwood is brittle, not harder.

it looks like it is made of mahogany rather than willow... it is a major go-er...
