Best pads available from Amazon for £40-50
« on: January 24, 2014, 03:12:41 PM »

Hi all. I have Amazon vouchers left from Christmas, and want to get some pads (adult size, RH). If you saw my post about a first time bat purchase on the other forum you will appreciate that I am not going to set the cricketing world alight. I'm effectively a beginner going to nets one night a week, aiming to play in Sunday friendly games come the start of the season.

So, having scanned what is available for £35-£50 on www.amazon.co.uk, the Kookaburra 2013 Recoil 900 seem to be a pretty good bet for £42.63 which is around what I'd like to pay (then I can save some cash to put towards a thigh guard).
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kookaburra-Recoil-Cricket-Batting-Legguards/dp/B00AF61YQS/ref=sr_1_33?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1390575528&sr=1-33
I do understand having looked at some of the cricket retailers sites that this price is nothing special, but I'm lumbered with the vouchers.

I'd be delighted if anyone had any better suggestions or advice! I'm pretty open minded about the colour scheme on the back, but definitely prefer a traditional design.

Thanks in advance!

Had a quick look for you. I couldn't find any to compete with the ones above.

Unless you want to bat left handed, then you've lots of choice :P

Think you have got a good deal there and at that price is good value.

Welcome onboard GDC.

As for the pads in question i have a set of these i got mine when sportsdirect were basically giving them away and lots of other kit to say the least i have mine for net use as i will be using my new Kooks for playing but these are very comfortable pads to say the least and with good straps and protection are very good for the price considering last year they were around the 80-90 pound mark.
they will do you well i'm sure.
As for a thigh pad theres only one person to see about that and thats Mr George Fox of Stratton Fox, nicest guy quite possibly in the world, and a real laugh as well, and the guards are literally almost bullet proof been hit a few times at 75mph in the nets and you dont feel a thing.

Cant imagine a beginner playing Sunday friendlies will require Strettons that cost over £100!

If you after a thighpad just for friendlies then you will be aswell off getting the Grey Nicolls shorts that Sports Direct sell for about £5.99 I think they are. They will serve you just fine.

Thanks chaps. I'm now the proud owner of a pair of Recoil 900s, which felt very comfy in the nets on Monday, although I probably tightened the straps a little over enthusiastically.

I picked up a kookaburra thigh pad (also 900) for £15.99 which seems good and tough, but I haven't had the chance to test it yet. I assume when I get round to purchasing some trousers that they are designed to be big enough to fit over all this stuff!

Gloves next, and they are on the way from onlinestockist.com (having read the posts about indian/small men's size) so I'm making some good progress this week with getting my kit together!

Thanks again for the advice.

We have some pads on Amazon! Gray-Nics and Kookaburra ones only, I think.  I can check for you, though.
