England v NZ
« on: June 26, 2008, 08:04:02 AM »

All i want to ask is if you were Colly what would you have done?

Personally i feel the umpires should've called dead ball which would've defused the situation, seen as they didn't, Colly did what most captains would've done in a tight situation and taken the wicket.

At the time he probably wasn't aware of peoples reactions to it, it would've been a disappointing way to win but i guess justice was done in the end.

What was Swann thinking?

I would have repealed the appeal in that situation. Well, I would like to think that I would have although obviously one can never tell without fully experiencing the circumstances. I think that the dismissal sent out all the wrong messages about what's important in the game.

With the Swann throw, I don't think Collingwood had made the objective clear to all the players. I think that they should have accepted the tie and pushed for a win in the Lord's ODI. I also think that the backing up on that delivery was poor.

Finally, why was it that Collingwood bowled 7 overs and Luke Wright only 2?

I wouldnt blame Graeme Swann, as it was certainly a possibility of arun out, if he had hit! It wasthebacking up that was the problem, of the three players htat had lined up for the stop, only Stuart Broad actually went for it!

Interesting call making Pietersen captain, might well be the start of the end for Collingwood!

If i was colly i would have appealed as well as if you want to win you have o be ruthless your not out there to make friends your there to win for your country. However i believe that this isn't colly's fault it is the umpires (not sure who it was ) if he thought that sidebottom deliberitly pushed (can't remember who) he should have called a dead ball but to offer colly the desicion was just ludicrous to me.

Also at the end England need to go back to basics and learn how to field backing up is one of the main things we get drilled into us.
