Adidas, New Balance, Nike
« on: November 12, 2014, 09:58:34 AM »

Do companies like Adidas, New Balance and Nike actually make any money from their cricket ranges? considering the number of players they sponsor, and most likely pay to use their kit. Are there enough cricketers out there who buy a bat because Aaron Finch of Gary Ballance use it?. Or do they make such a profit from other areas such as shoes and clothing, that they can afford to run an unprofitable section of their company just to keep up the appearance of having a product range covering a majority of sports? or do they do it just to compete with each other?

Adidas almost certainly make a profit

Nike you don't see a lot of so not sure, they probably make a lot on their cricket shoes though!

New balance are new boys who seem to have thrown a lot of money into sponsorship, they could be another woodworm or they could be a big success. We'll wait and see on that!

Don't forget New Balance sell shoes and they sell well - NB shoes were in nearly every team I played against this year, I'd be amazed if the shoes aren't more profitable to them then all the rest of the kit put together

Adidas will certainly make a profit, the Indian market for them will be huge which is probably their main income stream

Nike don't need to make money out of cricket, it's all about brand awareness for them - whether they do make money or not is another question which I wouldn't have the faintest clue of! (Saying that they probably shift a fair bit of kit in India still)
