Hi

I managed to pick up a SAF hades (approx 2.07) on the bay last year for a steal for my 15 year old son. The bat was made for a county player and came with a super short handle. It has performed really well and is now fully knocked in and reaching its peak. As is natures way my son is now almost 16 and about 5.10 - and still growing - he loves the bat but we both think he really needs to be playing with a standard SH (I know its only an inch difference but it does significantly affect the balance etc). My question is - should I get it rehandled with a standard length handle (approx �40 - perhaps total cost �70 with tidy up - new face and toe guard) or would that money be better spent on a new stick.

I've only ever had 1 bat re- handled and it didn't work, but I'd still give it a go if he really likes the bat. I still like that best!

Although it was for a broken handle, I had a bat refurbed, and handle replaced for 45 quid. 70 seems very steep.

you are probably right about it being a bit pricey- that's at M & H as I am down that way - where did you get yours done - and were you happy with it?

I'd go with a new bat. Some bats are actually fitted with a standard SH handle so changing it wouldn't give you that extra inch - Just depends how deep its been spliced.

If you are down that way, PM a member called SillyShilly or Bulldog, both of whom would do the job for you and maybe at a better price and you can ask them for their view at the same time.

So long as the handle is of the same quality, the only difference will be than the bat picks up a bit lighter - which may have an impact on the balance. If you have a good one, I would say make the investment in the bat you have.

What am I saying.

Your son needs a new bat and a new net bat to protect his new bat, and maybe a heavier bat to help him get used to his new bat and his net bat.

B3 in Nottingham did mine, bit of a trek for you, but it was worth it.
