The NZ commentators were talking about how he scrapes away the bottom of the handle to leave a very narrow bottom hand grip that he can strangle with his bottom

They got this around the wrong way, he has a very thin top handle

So, sanga does the same thing I think. I think they cut the top off, but add that tape on top to compensate for the removed weight (so the balance remains unchanged, but the handle is now shorter).

also the CricHQ sticker on the back of his bat is a NZ cricket scoring company that does live scoring for the majority of clubs in New Zealand and its starting to spread all over the place. I believe he is a brand ambassador, nothing to do with the ownership or running of the company itself.

He is a co owner with Stephen Fleming and Vetorri.

In Australia last season the Puma Pulse and Kinetic had 2 rubber inserts in the handle just like McCullum's new EvoSpeed while the Platinum Black had 3 inserts and my understanding is they come from two different Indian factories with the Platinum coming from SS.
Also McCullum showed a huge amount of patience in his innings, his leaving was very good, which can be argued is relatively uncharacteristic of his batting at Test level. It has been a great innings.

What ever the profile, it's been good for. 500 plus runs of late!

Not sure if he's superstitious, but his bat grip looked battered, and was held together with medical tape and the lot yesterday,

Commentators were having a laugh about it, and saying his sponsors must be short of cash if they can't send him new ones.

I'm gonna presume he thought he'd get out if he changed it.

Considering that the vast majority of players on here fit into the "very average club cricketer" category, how many of us can say that we have racked up a double-ton, let alone a triple? The concentration required to amass soooo many runs while still concentrating for every delivery is an amazing feat to say the least! I'm absolutely over the moon when I can knock up a 50 and can only stand in awe of someone that has those powers of concentration! Well done mate, keep pushing the boundaries!

Really commendable efforts by BAZ, knowing they were 94/5 in the same innings with the same bowling attack lot of guys here are criticizing. There aren't lot of players who have scored double Tons & Triple Tons against the "weak" Indian bowling attack. Nobody should take away the feat BAZ achieved, there was a time during the test match where it looked like NZs would lose the match easily.

I had a bat made by MG2 a couple of years ago and requested a McCullum profile. They said they had repaired a few of his bats but didn't make them. I would assume, as in NZ the only other top brand is Laver, for McCullum never to have had a bat made by MG2; he has probably been using the same company for years (I.e. Laver). I notice the SH was printed on the bat handle, not sure which companies do that but it should narrow down the bat maker as I know Puma, MG2 and Ton (I think) don't print/stamp.
In terms of the bat it lasted two years and was a belter. It weighed 2'9 and had an excellent pick up. Huge middle/profile. Minimum concaving. Nothing particularly special about the bat, as in it was a middle-high sweet spot and wasn't extravagant but it did perform and it was pretty forgiving.

James Laver told me that he doesn't make BMs bats. I thought he said the McCullum was one of the few players that actually used the bats made by his sponsor. This was a few years ago now and may have changed since.

I am pretty sure that laver have made for BM, although not sure if that's the case currently?
But it's accepted that some batsmen do like to try a few makers out!
And others stick to one certain maker, no matter who they are sponsored by.
But it's not really important so us mere mortals, as we would rarely get a bat made specifically for a player anyway.
