Bat shape
« on: April 04, 2014, 03:22:57 AM »

I have been looking into many cricket bat shapes and was wondering what people thought was the best bat shape and reason why? What would the dimensions of your perfect bat be? Everything from edges to spine length, middle, weight, pick up.

It's just been on my mind to what everybody thinks as everyone will have different opinions

I think as you you eluded to we all have different preferences for bats as we all have our own styles of batting,
I prefer a bat with what some people would call a middle middle. Not low so cant play off the back foot and not too high so i cant drive.
I prefer  weights around 2lb 8 oz but i think that is more just a number as i like to feel the bats in my hands. Often when buying a new bat i do it blindfolded so i dont get caught up on brands and focus on the bat itself.

Im not all fussed whether no concaving or concaving is best as i have 2 absolute belter of sticker, a kookaburra pro players and a Gabba Glide custom and one is really concaved and the other has none and both go like a train!

As you said everyone's opinion is different depending on their personal type of play

For me the old style GN Powerbow shape.

As for dimensions I have never measured a bat and never will I think it's pointless. If it feels right in your hands and has been well pressed that's what matters. If your buying blind give a shape your looking for and the target weight, mine is usually 2'9 - 2'10. Think it's a joke that people want edges to the mm and spine as well...but that's just my opinion :)

Don't like concaving, would rather smaller edges and more willow in the middle. Like you say we are all different though.

I'm going to go with a traditional profile in around 2lb9oz... Doesn't have to be exact as long as it feels good... I have used bats from 2lb6oz to 3lb5oz
