The charity I work for, Fields in Trust (formerly the National Playing Fields Association) protects parks, playing fields, open spaces and sports grounds.  It protects through a Deed which is written in charitable and contract law, which means it protects against developments.

We protect nearly 3,000 sites across the UK, including many sports grounds - we're currently engaging with the ECB to be included on their club support pages.

The site needs to be nominated for protection by the landowners, but if they are keen to secure it, it can be done in weeks.  Total cost - £80 in Land Registry fees to register the new Deed of title  www.fieldsintrust.org - PM me if you want more info...

I am on both sides of this stuff myself so see both sides but it should be down to the owner to do with it what they want.

It's council owned AFAIK. If it is, the ground shouldn't be sold off IMO

Councils have to balance their books somehow. (Ps I agree that we as a nation need more better quality sports fields not less but I am now on the other side and can see why people/councils should be allowed to sell if it's theirs to sell)

Which council owns the ground? I'll see if fields in trust have protected other sites they own. Either way, I'm happy to approach them with the suggestion, we'll have the relevant council contact...

It'll be either Epsom council or Surrey County Council that own it.
