Not a fan of doweling me find it creates a more weak-spot rather than strength

Hi everyone

Thanks for the advice and offers.

I have opened up the crack and there's no way I'm dowelling it!
It was actually 2 cracks, one down the edge and the one you can see.

I was effectively left with 3 openings, these have been filled with PVA (not watered down as I wanted it full strength) and I've wrapped tightly with tape to clamp it.
Fingers crossed this has saved her, if not, she went like a gun while she was alive, shame I didn't get as much use as if have liked.

Will update on Sunday when I'll take the tape off!

And so people know what I mean by the split, I've used my iPhone for some high quality editing to show where the crack ended up when I opened it up.

It split in two places effectively

At the base of the red line you can see where the crack continues, this opened all the way to the base of the crack

Let's hope the glue worked, a bit of tape and hopefully she'll be good as new.

I would also have an insert put in as it will help stop the crack from growing and put a larger amount of strength back in the toe which a doweling wouldn't do, how come you are leaving it taped up till sunday? the glue will be dry by tomorrow

At work all day tomorrow and leaving early Saturday so won't have time to finish the job, might as well do it properly rather than rush things.

What does an insert look like? Just interested as I have seen picks of doweling a crack, but not this method of repair?
