Playing abroad
« on: July 15, 2014, 09:13:45 PM »

Hi all,
I am currently planning for life after uni, and am hoping to take a step into the unknown. It has been an ambition to play abroad for a number of years, and I have settled on New Zealand as my preferred destination and am hoping to make the trip for the 2015/16 season. I have no experience in this aspect, and was wondering about a couple of things.
1. Has anyone played or coached in New Zealand before?
2. Is there a club/area that would be particularly recommended?
3. What is the best way of advertising myself? I have done some research into agencies, but if people have any feedback about agencies that they could share that would be much appreciated.
4. I am hoping to get a paid position (if possible) to make it a working holiday as a coach/player, as well as being able to hopefully have a good time in a new location, so what sort of level should I be aiming at? I play uni 1s, and am playing at a pretty good level for my club, and am hoping to test myself at a higher level, possibly the equivalent of premier division or premier second division.
Many thanks,
Alex

If you PM me I will send your details onto a couple of guys over here that could give you some answers. I work at a local secondary school in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty NZ (Google it and you will see some pretty impressive stuff and best weather in NZ). We are in the Northern Districts area (Williamson, Boult, Southee, Anderson, Watling, Sodhi) Williamson played for my club last year and Boult had a couple of games in the local club comp.

Anyway Send me your details and a CV and I will pass that info onto the Cricket guys over here.

Charles.

That would be awesome if you could! I will sort it as soon as I can, probably Sunday as I will need to write a cricket cv, because the one I just wrote for an application for a job at uni in coaching was ropey at best. I will send my details over, and send on a cv when I have sorted it. Thanks a lot,
Alex
