L&W's Exceptional Customer Service
« on: August 14, 2014, 10:42:45 PM »

Service and Product:
Where should I start with Laver & Wood? They not only make best looking and performing bats in the world, but also provide unprecedented service to their customers. I have owned 8 bats and played with few more in my life but no one even come close to the finished product as Laver & Wood. Comparing L&W to other bats is like comparing Ferrari to other car.

How it happened?
My L&W special reserve got de-laminated after very few net sessions. Anthony van Dorsten from L&W started working with me on this. All he asked me was a photo of damaged bat and that's it. All I had to do is ship my damaged bat to them to get new one. No questions asked, no order number and no hassles. I had to bear the shipping cost from USA to NZ.
He generously gave me free upgrade to private bin without me asking for it. He also agreed to customize it according to my needs. I asked him many questions during this process. He was very kind to answer every single one of it.

Look and Feel:
After a long wait L&W private bin was at my door. Out of the box it look like a beauty and a beast in one package. They used brilliant techniques to accommodate all my specifications. It was exactly according to my specs. It picked up like a dream especially for it's size and profile. I could not feel any vibrations at all after pinging.
I am still not sure whether I should use it or keep it as an art.

Specs:
Edges: 41 mm continuous for 6" inches. Not ONLY at peak like other bats.
Spine: 65 - 60 mm for 6" inches
Toe Edge: 30 mm
Edge at private bin sticker: 30 mm
Weight:  2.10 lbs. I have not actually put it on scale, but I am pretty sure it is around it. I do not weight my bats because I don't want to get it into my head. Balance and feel is more important than weight.
Sweet spot: Mid-Low and extended. I would say whole bat is sweet spot or just say "Sweet bat".
Face: Flat
Profile: Full profile. No concave at all
Grains: 7 straight grains. This is only part I did not liked. Fewer grains than I expected. But it is low density willow which creates massive profile.
Handle: L&W Oval C10 is the best in business. I went for 1/2" shorter handle.
Bow: No bow at all but they have fitted handle a little forward to create a natural bow. Brilliant, right?
Grip: Two grips. Golden yellow coil on top and chevron underneath. Not a big fan of chevron grips.

A sharing thought:
Just because I own this bat, it doesn't mean I will be best batsman in the team. Doesn't mean I am going to score 500+ runs in a season,  have multiple 50's or add a century under my name. Remember it is just a tool. But I will feel confident walking with this bat than any other (May be I will walk with it in middle just to envy others :D). The most important thing for me or for anyone is enjoying cricket.

Conclusion:
Laver & Wood believe in their product and stand behind it. They have an exceptional customer service. They are the best in business. Anthony van Dorsten is now my long distance friend.

Thank you Anthony

This bat doesn't exist without photos.

That being said, my experience with L&W has been brilliant too, (Not far off your experience) so I don't doubt that this bat exists at all!

Still though, pictures please. ;)

As there's no pics, I shall merely comment on service I'm receiving.

Ordered my laver and wood 3 weeks ago.  8 days later was told it's almost done and would receive the tracking numbers in the next day.
7 days later I emailed and asked where said numbers were. They said it was to be boxed up today tracking number tomorrow.

Still not received said tracking numbers. As it's coming from nz I didn't expect a quick turn around. But truth in emails would be nice

I would not agree with this statement! The bats are amongst the best quality bats on the market....that is true in my opinion too!
But to say no other bat compares indicates that you have had a limited (or blinkered) experience of other bats!

But absolutely gorgeous profile - love the size and the fact that there is no concaving!
Agree that the service L&W provide is superb and they make things so simple, even though they are the other side of out planet!
Don't worry about the lack of grains - as long as it goes well for you, that's the important thing! 😎

Have recently received my Private Bin from L&W, and would agree in the main about their customer service.  Yes the bat looks great and had to force myself to use it as it was so well finished.  Even the wife couldn't stop stroking it !! (double entendre not intended!).  Was fully knocked in too.  Did it meet my requirements?  Yes and no.  told them what I was looking for but that most important was as light pickup as possible on a light a bat as poss. So effectively they had free reign, and although it arrive probably 2 ounzes heavier than expected, it has a lighter pickup compared with my 2lb 5oz I use indoors (slaz V1200).  Took a good while do make so wont have an opportunity now to use it in anger.

all that said,  I have dealt with Red Ink last year in producing a bat for my 8 year old.  and John Collings attention to customer service was superb, delivering a beautifully finished bat absolutely on a par with L&W.  After hundreds of whacks with a hard ball, the bat is really beginning to open up nicely.  so much so, when I  do throw downs to him I'm beginning to consider wearing my helmet.

so, I think anyone can find a high quality podshaver quite readily in UK.  I suppose it just really comes down to personal preference.  That said,  a few M&H bats I've looked at at Uzi Sports recently don't seem that well finished considering the price.  Actually quite disappointing really.  No doubt they play superbly though.

But, yes, thank  you L&W.  Lets hope I can do justice to the bat.

It was a personal preference for me. It can be compared with handmade manufactures like MH, Newberry or Screaming cat. I have seen those and convinced it stands out among these too.
I was expecting at least 10-12 grains but I am least concerned about it.
