Mtown Don's WA 'Tour Diary'
« on: December 17, 2013, 05:03:53 PM »

Hi guys,

As I've mentioned on another thread, I'm travelling to Oz in the new year to train at an academy for 10 weeks and play for a club side on the weekends. It's something I've long wanted to experience but never thought that I would get the opportunity so I'm really looking forward to it.

As I count down the days until my flight, I hope you will not find me too egocentric in starting a 'tour diary' of sorts on these boards. As self-serving as it sounds, I hope it will provide a good platform for me to organise my thoughts and just maybe provide an insight into grade cricket from the perspective of an uninitiated Pom.

Anyway, I don't have much to update yet but if anyone has any thoughts, advice, questions or scare stories then please share!

Mtown Don

Stay on the back foot!!  My shoulder and chin can attest to that.
Play your shots and enjoy your bowl (if that's your thing). Its very competitive and the standard should help you when you get Back.. I went in 07/08 and although struggled when I was away had a stormer in the summer of 08 with bat and ball.

Cheers! I'm a 'keeper/opening bat so I should get maximum value out of the Saturday/Saturday format to improve my big innings building and stamina. I'm really hoping to step up my game a level while I'm there as I feel I've stagnated a bit over the last couple of years as I enjoyed the team and social aspect. Now I'm skipper at my club I want to start leading from the front so hopefully this will help.

I actually had my best ever season (also 08) after touring Perth too for 3 weeks that winter though not sure how much influence that had but maybe a good omen!

Good luck fella. Let's hope you have more success than the current England cricketers in Oz.

Good luck Ed, hope it goes well for you!

Going to need a lot of grass nets when you're back to adjust you to Dorset pitches again before the start of the season!

Good luck mate, I've always wanted to do the opposite (travel to England and play in the summer over there) hopefully it's going to improve your game as much as your hoping.
