Sticker Marks
« on: October 15, 2014, 10:24:52 AM »

Hi, I'm looking for some advice please.

I have removed the stickers from 2 old bats and they both have marks where the stickers used to be, how do I get rid of these marks?

I have sanded both bats quite a lot but you can still see see where the stickers used to be, is there any way to get rid of these please?

Thanks

Carry on sanding! They seem to take a lot of sanding to remove, but in reality you're not actually removing that much wood.

Have you tried putting a bit of oil on the areas? Purely because the stickers would have prevented any oil penetrating the wood.

Thanks for the responses.

I have put a little oil on the marks, but I'll do that again after a bit more sanding tonight?

Oil tends to mark any sticker shadow show up more in my experience. Oil the bat by all means, but only after you have sanded away any sticker marks.

My experience is the same as Jake's oiling makes sticker marks more visible also be careful oiling where you are going to put new stickers as stickers over oiled willow can be a problem as linseed oil  can react against the sticker glue also oiling can cause problems with the softening of the glue  in the  vee.

Either a light plane or low grit sandpaper
