GM Mogul 606
« on: November 12, 2014, 09:58:55 PM »

So, I couldn't resist getting hold of a GM Mogul as soon as possible. Ever since I saw the shape and design first appear on here I thought it looked really different and exactly the sort of profile I would like. I must admit that I also liked the colours and as always the classy GM stickers.
I got hold of Jake when I saw his pics of the hand-picked bats and really liked the look of the 606 Mogul that was just under 2lb 9oz. It was a smooth transaction and the bat arrived safely a few days later.
When I got it out of the box I was immediately pleased with it as it just looks fantastic. For a 606 it has really straight grains and quite a few of them. Some blemishes and heartwood are present but these are mainly cosmetic I reckon and it looks much better than you'd expect from a 606.
The shape looks even better in the flesh with wood taken away from the shoulders and toe, which is a bit duck-billed but not totally. The edges are 38mm and I reckon the spine height is 58mm. There is just the merest hint of concaving which is amazing as I thought this is where the lower grades would differ from the higher grades and I expected a lot more concaving on this bat.
The pick-up is just sublime and the only way I can describe it is that it feels light picking it up with just one hand. I was told it was just under 2lb 9oz and when I popped it in the scales it was 2lb 8.8oz so pretty spot on there. It looks like a 2lb 9oz bat in size but does feel lighter in the hands and I am comparing this to other 2lb 9oz bats I have had.
The final thing is the wonderful ripple grip which I have always loved and this is over a nice feeling thick handle that is slightly oval at the bottom - just feels really comfy.
Enjoy the pics and many thanks to Jake and Vitas cricket. I really don't think you can spend £110 better on a cricket bat for the 2015 season.

The GM bats aren't hand picked by vitas but by GM. Looks a lovely bat, I have a six6 606 I bought from Chris who bought from jake and if the performance is anything like mine you won't be disappointed

I'd love to hear more from someone at GM on their grading process, we regularly see 606's etc that have heaps of evenly spaced straight grains and no or minimal blemishes, yet there always pops up the odd Original that looks a bit wonky. Are their volves so high that there will always be a degree of error, or is their process so rigorous that differs are all picked out and downgraded.
