Benefits Of A SSH Handle With A Long Blade
« on: November 11, 2014, 01:45:34 AM »

Anyone using a bat set up with a supershort handle and a long blade? What are the benefits of such a set up? Does this setup generate faster bat speed?

It will be opposite of mongoose style
Shorter handle and longer bladed will reduce the bat speed

I use a SSH in all of my bats. They aren't long blades though. Not all much shorter than a standard length handle anyway. I really like using them as it makes me less inclined to choke the bat.

Use a bat that you are comfortable with whether it's a SSH/SH/LB etc.

Surely only benefit those with small hands and extremely long legs?  :D

Surely hand size doesn't come into it. Short arms, on the other hand... (pun very much intended)   :D

Only ever saw one a chap  at a club i used to play for had one  it had the width of the blade  slightly narrowed i guess to reduce the weight of the blade and therefore increase bat speed.

I am not sure that it would (if you were comparing two equal in weight bats).

Because the blade is longer, the wood will be more spread out and the fact that it will be closer to your hands would make the pick up that bit better, in my opinion.

How much difference do you really think having a long blade versus a standard blade makes to bat speed? Really? It's minute. Miniscule. Not something you'd even notice. Distribution of the mass down the length of the blade is far more important.

I've made a few of these. The guys who like the SSH tend to have both hands low down and say that the extra bit of the handle gets in the way when playing wristy shots.
