what do we think so far? any major surprises? anything that's a given but not been confirmed yet? where do we expect to see those who have been released going (particularly Northants cull)?

I see Compton has been added to Middlesex ins.

as a somerset fan i reasonably pleased so far. obviously a big shame to lose compton. i think allenby will be a good signing in the short term and hopefully meschede can get some playing time.

Gloucester seem to be dealing in ex-Marlow players. Played for a few years with Will Gidman, mainly Sundays as he played 1s for us. Nice lad. Remember him and Pistol chasing down 100 in 8 overs and coming in with 5 needed off the last 2 overs  :) . He wasn't really an opening bowler back then from memory, more of a batsman come allrounder.

I was Tom Hamptons first senior captain. Lovely lad and his brother isn't a bad player either. Played in the 3's for me for 3 years or so before the 1s worked out that the 3s was a better source of young talent than the 2s. Tom was pinched and he never looked back. I think both lads have had to work really hard to get a chance. I know Tom has done 2 years worth of trails at various counties - Middx/Hampshire etc. Last time I saw Tom bowl full speed he looked 80+ judging by how far the slips were back, he might be a welcome addition.

I'd agree, need to clear a little dead wood and could do with a couple of batsman to help sort out the top order. I think abell will do a good job but not so sure on myburgh and barrow as just batsman.  With Rehman in, I don't see us needing myburgh. Really need 1-2 well established players, especially with Compton gone.
