Did anyone see Cox for Worcestershire break his bat today during the T20 against Durham, looks like it broke in the same place where Carberry's bat broke (just under the V).

I've seen a few do that recently. After watching a video from Laver, talking about how he doesn't concave around the splice as it can make the splice point weaker, I've become convinced that concaving at the splice, poor handling or storm damage is almost always the cause of this problem. Obviously, it could just be that the bat has been used a lot, and gradually gotten weaker at that point, but I've seen it happen on a few Kookaburras now, so makes me wonder if it's always storm damage. They do sell a lot of bats though, so wouldn't be surprised if it was just storm damage. With so many clefts being bought in, there are bound to be a few with storm damage.

As somone who started playing when all bats were covexed i hardly saw any bats break around the splice  i reckon  concaving as a lot to do with breakages.

That too! They're definitely drying out bats much more aggressively, they're practically twice the size they were a good 20 years ago for the same weight.

It can happen with general wear and tear mind, but I think that of the 6 or so Kook Genesis bats I saw in my lifetime, 3 broke around the splice area, but not quite as dramatically as the Carberry break. It is a weak point in the bat, and there's not too much the consumer can do to protect that area, unlike the edges and toe!
